Detox & Digital Disconnection

I attended the first of Le Web 2012 and have particularly enjoyed the Orange surprise: the Orange Bubble or how to duck out from the overtly connected conference.  In a world overpopulated with i-devices and black shirted geeks and Volcom hoods, this was a well planted contrarian activity.

On a first level, with some 2,000 hyper connected participants, the conference’s wifi was over-wrought, so connection was painfully slow.  Enter: the Orange disconnection bubble.

The Orange Bubble

This Orange Bubble booth offers a 5-minute digital pause. What does this entail?

  1. Orange Bubble Le Web 2012 Machine, The Myndset Digital Marketing and Brand Strategy

Your iPhone needs a cleaning and backup?

First, you must take a quiz. Your score, on a scale up to 32, gauges your level of stress/connectedness. (BTW I scored 22, which made me feel oddly happy)

  2. Secondly, you must release your iPhone and iPad and all other means of getting i-disturbed. These are then physically cleaned and your contacts are efficiently downloaded onto a SD card, which is handed over along with your polished device(s).
  3. Thirdly, you sit in a comfortable chair, surrounded by casual music, a light fragrance, and the option to blow some bubbles (as well as bubble gum).

If nothing else, the hard copy of my contacts was a fabulous reward. Moreover, the Bubble Booth puts the right question out there: the very real need to disconnect from time to time to let the brain breathe…

Here’s a close-up of the goodies on offer inside the Bubble:
