Educating the children on democracy

I must say that my wife, Yendi, has taken the elections as a great opportunity to “teach” the children (Oscar 10 and Alexandra 7) the interest of the right to vote. Without bias, we have asked them to judge the candidate’s pamphlets (inevitably a visual assessment) as well as to go through the Le Monde on-line quiz on which is the candidate that most resembles their opinion. Naturally, there is a portion in their answers that must come from our “prejudice,” but Yendi manages to give this “exposure” with great grace and openness. Without going into the details, they managed to choose the trio of Royal (1st choice), Sarkozy as well as the Ecologist (Dominique Voynet), a winning and fitting tribute to the state of the younger generation.
