Minter Dialogue with Anita Nowak

Anita Nowak, PhD, is an empathy activist and expert, principal and founder of PVM Studio, a global advisory firm, that supports purpose-driven individuals, family offices, foundations, and companies. She’s also an author, with a new book, “Purposeful Empathy, Tapping Our Hidden Superpower for Personal, Organizational and Social Change,” coming out in April 2023 (it’s available for pre-order!). In this conversation, we discuss her journey to becoming an empathy enthusiast, the power of the empathic embrace, new research on and the future of empathogens (such as MDMA), misconceptions about empathy, as well as some of the useful tools in her book around self-development, virtues and questions for reflection.

Please send me your questions — as an audio file if you’d like — to nminterdial@gmail.com. Otherwise, below, you’ll find the show notes and, of course, you are invited to comment. If you liked the podcast, please take a moment to rate it here.

Music credit: The jingle at the beginning of the show is courtesy of my friend, Pierre Journel, author of the Guitar Channel. And, the new sign-off music is “A Convinced Man,” a song I co-wrote and recorded with Stephanie Singer back in the late 1980s (please excuse the quality of the sound!).
