London Calling: The Padel Revolution Hits Olympia!
It is the feeling you get halfway between a goosebump and a pinch when a dream you’ve been banging on about for years finally becomes official. The global elite circuit is officially making its UK debut! The London Premier Padel P1 is coming to Kensington Olympia next week! (Aug 4–9 2026). Going to watch the pros live can be a game-changer, literally. The British padel ecosystem has officially graduated from a scrappy upstart into a global powerhouse hub.
The World-Class Line-Up
The heavy hitters of the sport are descending on London’s striking black courts:
- The Men’s Draw: Expect absolute fireworks from world No. 1s Arturo Coello & Agustín Tapia, alongside fierce rivals Alejandro Galán & Federico Chingotto, and the ultimate crowd-pullers, Juan Lebrón and Paquito Navarro.
- The Women’s Draw: The brilliance of world No. 1s Gemma Triay & Delfina Brea will lead the pack, alongside superstars Ari Sánchez and Alejandra Salazar (both of whom have been guests on my Joy of Padel podcast!).
- Homegrown Talent: Keep your eyes peeled for top British wildcards! On the men’s side in the main draw, there’s Christian Medina Murphy (currently world #163), Louie Harris (#272), Alex Loughlan (#276), Chris Salisbury (#713) and Alfonso Patacho (#866). Among the wemen, British top two Aimee Gibson (#96) and Catherine Rose (#97), who both stand out for being in the world’s top 100, offer arguably the best home hopes of success. In the qualifying rounds, there are further wildcards, including Britain’s No.1 teenage sensation Ben Phillips (#698) and Jamie Lobo Wordsworth (#369), as well as Cameron Dollimore (#292) and Theo Garton (#305). Meanwhile, the qualis on the womens’ side will feature British No.3 Tia Norton (#138) who partners Belgian Helena Wyckaert (#200).
Off the court, the atmosphere will be absolutely buzzing. Olympia is transforming into a massive social scene featuring interactive fan zones, premium food and drink hubs, and live music.
The Amateur Masterclass: What to Look For
- Watch the movement of the pairs: Notice how they move like they are attached by a string. When one moves back, the other adjusts seamlessly to cover the open angles.
- Hear the ongoing communication: Listen carefully between points—and even during rallies. The best players continuously feed information about where their opponents are positioned.
- Notice the margin of error: Watch how rarely the pros aim right next to the lines. They play with safety margins, focusing on placement over pure power.
- The excellence and number of lobs: Count how often they reset the point with a high, deep lob. It is the most important defensive weapon in the game.
- How often the wall is used: Observe how comfortable they are letting the ball pass them to hit the glass. The wall is your friend, not your enemy.
- The percentage of good first serves: Notice that they rarely blast the first serve. They aim for high consistency—striving for a 90% success rate just to gain immediate control of the net.
My Golden Tip: Focus on the Women’s Game
While the men’s game is a spectacle of raw power and spectacular out-of-court smashes, it is virtually impossible for an amateur to replicate. Instead, focus your learning on the women’s matches. The women’s game relies on impeccable tactics, physical endurance, intelligent point construction, and surgical precision. If you want to take actionable lessons back to your local club, copy how the women play.
You can still get your tickets here. See you court-side at Olympia! Let’s celebrate the joy of padel.
